I was checking on my Blue Hubbard squash vines, trying to keep them steered to the edge of the lawn, when I noticed three or four little blossom-topped balls among the leaves!Yes, they're less than an inch in diameter right now, but come October they'll be big 20-pound bumpy blue-green footballs. My favorite winter squash.

I only planted a kind of a purple violet once in my life, and I can still remember my excitement when I saw the very first blossom.
(Though never ever planted anything again after a cruel attack of sparrows to my lovely violets lol)
