Despite the strength of the Internet Bacon Meme, I don't think much of Bacon Salt. It doesn't "make everything taste like bacon," it makes everything taste like cheap, shitty smoke-flavored salt.
On a recent foray to markdown grocer The Barn in Greenfield MA, I found a shelf full of Bacon Salt at fifty cents per jar. Finally, someone is selling the stuff for what it should be marked at based on flavor and usefulness.

HA! I couldn't agree more! I never did understand the appeal of that crap. Even at 50 cents, it might be overpriced.
Tried the Baconnaise made by the same company. It was horrific. Had a very artificial flavor that tsated nothing like bacon.
I'd not give it house room. Even @50c per container. Looking at the picture of the label - does that say "Low Sodium"???
For SALT? Am I Nutz or am I reading that wrong?
I downloaded the pic and enlarged it - you're not nutz, it DOES say "Low Sodium"!
And it's gluten-free.
Hilarious!
Discount places like this always sell everything marked down because they are near expiration. So i guess you could have written a post about any brand product at all with the "for what it's worth" tag.
That said, the baconsalt folks have created croutons and they are addicting. Only available at wal-mart (kinda markdown world).
My point, Anonymous, is that Bacon Salt isn't anything like the awesome magic dust that its fanboys make it out to be. It doesn't taste like bacon, it tastes like ordinary seasoned salt with some smoke flavoring added. If you think that's worth the regular retail price, cool - go for it.
I saw how the stuff was made on a travel network show. It doesnt have any real bacon in it, so i knew it would be horrible. But despite myself i purchased some. I tasted it by itself first...disgusting. tasted like bad beef jerky. I threw it out...and to think I was about to put it on my homemade potato chips!
