McDonald's Southern Style Chicken Biscuit

Hey, McDonald's has this new breakfast sandwich! Have you heard about it? It's called the Southern Style Chicken Biscuit!

Of course you've heard of it. I don't think anyone in North America can spend more than ten minutes with a television or radio broadcast without hearing an advertisement for the damn things. McDonald's obviously thinks they're the bestest breakfast sandwich ever invented. So I got one this morning to see what all the hoopla is about.

Now, I should preface this review by stating out front that I generally like the breakfast offerings at McDonald's even though I'm not a big fan of any of the other menu items. I could happily start every day with a Sausage McMuffin with Egg (aka The Perfect Breakfast.) And since the Mickey D's around here are pushing the Chicken Biscuit by offering two for $3 right now (regular price $2.79 each in this market) the decision to detour to the drive-through this morning was easy.

Unfortunately, the Chicken Biscuit doesn't live up to the reputations established by the Egg McMuffin or the Sausage McMuffin with Egg. The chicken is all white meat, as advertised, but it's dry and a little stringy; the coating seems to be exactly the same crap with which Chicken McNuggets are encapsulated. Bland, salty, and on a mass-market biscuit that's been drenched with liquid margarine before serving: this is not a sandwich that anyone is going to mistake for Momma's home cooking, no matter what the radio ads say.

I'm not going to bother mocking the calorie or sodium count of this oversized McNugget. If you're going to McDonald's for health food, you're probably not smart enough to get any of my jokes anyway.

Just in case you're curious, though, here's a link to the Southern Style Chicken Biscuit's nutritional info.

Absolutely disgusting... i feel for the 2 for $3 advertising.. I got a disgusting oil soaked yet oddly dry biscuit, with an oil filled piece of fried chicken in it. DISGUSTING!
