Doritos Spicy Sweet Chili

In the seemingly endless parade of hit-or-miss Doritos flavors from Frito-Lay comes this most recent "miss," Spicy Sweet Chili. From the name, I suppose that it's supposed to be kind of like a spicy chili pepper flavor with sweet overtones, but it falls far short of anything that enjoyable.

Mostly, what they taste like is salt with sugar thrown in. There's kind of a half-hearted attempt at spiciness, but until you've gone through nearly the entire serving, there's very little heat evident.

Maybe Frito-Lay should just go back to making nacho cheese flavored chips. At least those were pretty good.

  1. The spicy sweet chili flavor is incredible!! I don't know what you're talking about. Everyone I know can't stop eating them. Yummm.

  2. I was disappointed in them because the last spicy Doritos I tried - the Fiery Habanero flavor - was so good. I want more out of tortilla chips than papkrika, sugar, and torula yeast.

  3. I love the Spicy Sweet Chili chips! Wish I could find them at my grocery store. So far, I've only been able to find the smaller sizes at 7-11s and ONCE the large bags at Wal-Mart. No place else :(

  5. Email me a link to your post - these chips just underwhelmed me, but I'm obviously in the minority and I'd like to see what you have to say.

  6. ok, so i'm not a chip afficionado. actually, i'm morally and gastro-intestinally opposed to all forms of junk & fast food. but last week i was stranded in an airport in egypt and tried these chips as an alternative to starving to death. they were, surprisingly, the best doritos i've ever tasted. i happily polished off the entire large bag (well, at least the remains of a large bag after my ravenous fellow-travelers had their way with them...and i might add 6 of my 6 fellow american travel companions loved them). i think the point is that they're not supposed to be spicy as in "hot", rather spicy as in "they have flavor" - they are more of a savory chip. (Think good homemade barbecue sauce, not hot wing sauce from a strip mall joint.) if anyone knows where i can order a case of these off the internet, preferablly from a vendor that will ship naughty junk food in descretely unmarked packaging, let me know!
