My first thought was that it was some kind of quick release pan for angel food or bundt cakes but my googling found that it is a Back To Basics Nut Roaster. If I can find some actual recipes for it I might just go back and get it. Oddball kitchen items are hard to resist.Harryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09628269009060185397noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27945607.post-32943996467266100292011-05-04T14:46:58.483-04:002011-05-04T14:46:58.483-04:00Not sure I'd want to roast my nuts in that pan...Not sure I'd want to roast my nuts in that pan!!haphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09616728116181059642noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27945607.post-58129943044528492102011-05-04T08:45:04.232-04:002011-05-04T08:45:04.232-04:00steve06082 is awarded 2 internets for his nut roas...steve06082 is awarded 2 internets for his nut roaster suggestion. Brooke receives a consolation prize of 1 internet, because it is after all a kind of self-stirring pot.

Thanks to everyone who helped me figure this one out!Davehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17866627809585257034noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27945607.post-70538160925914840802011-05-04T08:23:17.912-04:002011-05-04T08:23:17.912-04:00Maybe a nut/coffee bean roaster.Maybe a nut/coffee bean roaster.steve06082noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27945607.post-91453997636601863382011-05-04T07:49:11.592-04:002011-05-04T07:49:11.592-04:00I think it may be a strangely low-tech version of ...I think it may be a strangely low-tech version of a self-stirring pot, as described under the second entry here:

http://www.crummy.com/writing/TheFuture/And%20Stuff%20for%20Around%20the%20House.html

I love that library archivists use a higher-tech version for making wheat paste. And I guess home cooks could use it for making risotto if they wanted to store yet another unitasker. But unless I'm missing something, the low-tech version doesn't seem to have any advantage over a spoon.Brookhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01529176576522963216noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27945607.post-4787854831561665632011-05-04T06:03:13.063-04:002011-05-04T06:03:13.063-04:00@JMS and Jim Weller - It does resemble a food mill...@JMS and Jim Weller - It does resemble a food mill, but there are no holes in the bottom of the pan to sieve the contents through - it's like a tube pan for baking angel-food cake, but with a crank handle.Davehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17866627809585257034noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27945607.post-82099111236998118892011-05-04T00:38:41.639-04:002011-05-04T00:38:41.639-04:00Yeah, looks like a food mill to me too.Yeah, looks like a food mill to me too.Jim Wellernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27945607.post-62123031188293258252011-05-03T23:47:42.762-04:002011-05-03T23:47:42.762-04:00Wow, this is a tough one.
