Almost all pasta is made the same way in a pasta factory, its boxed and bagged with itss spice or what ever with some name brand and there flavors. Kraft's pasta isn't any different, I had an uncle who worked in a pasta factory they made pasta for kraft, and american beauty and or other brands, they would put the spice and chase packets in that box with there pasta. I doubt kraft makes its own pasta anything. However with the merger of almost every brand into 2-3 conglomerts they are owned by the same fatcat or company now. Kraft is owned by HJ Heinz or 3g capatol, and Berkshire Hathaway the worlds 5th largest food and beverage company.
People really should know who's making dinner!
Unless your eating farm fresh food from your farm your eating something made by kraft/heintz... You can't avoid it. I have added hamburger meat as several people here have noted and it is awesome. The season mix is the bomb. I also wish they sold that individually so I could use it in other dinners. I understand some people may think it is awful, but that is why they make other options. My mother was divorced and raising 2 kids with no financial help so this was quick and easy, filling and most of all cheap. Every summer, we vacationed for 2 weeks in Monticello Indiana, Shady Nook Cottages which had a small kitchenette with limited access to pots and pans so my "Mimi" would serve this at least 10 out of the 14 lunches. I love the bite of the sauce and the cheese added to the sauce while simmering made it delicious! When I find it in a store, I buy them all. As I take the first fork full I'm taken back to a much simpler time in my life and enjoy every moment. Yes it may not be a nutritional supplement, but it tastes great and we all know that if it tastes good, it's not good for you 😆. So happy to know just how many people share my love for this classic. I'm still here so it can't be that bad. I used to use condensed tomato soup and sometimes tomato sauce. It was not as bad as this blog claims and the pasta in the box was no different than spaghetti from anywhere else you bought in the supermarket. While it surely was no gourmet Italian meal, the kids loved it and the sauce was like homemade, because you used your own tomatoes of choice. It actually was pretty good and tasty and the sauce was a powdered spice mix that was tangy and flavorful. You added you own tomato sauce;like tomato paste, canned tomato sauce, or even jarred Ragu' to make the sauce, then you added oil, water and mixed it together according to the directions. It was more like a fast and simple homemade sauce, rather than a bottled one. Then, you just boiled the spaghetti in the box. It was fast and tasty and as I recall, the box was around .39 cent in 1966.Dougie T. Like Pillsbury Space Food Sticks, we loved it because it was weird. It was a once a week treat for us and I haven't seen it in years! Now that I know that it's still available, I will try to find it. My kids will probably think I'm crazy, but it is a comfort food, reminding me of my childhood! With both parents gone, it is a little way to remind me of my happy time at the dinner table with my wonderful parents! This vintage "KRAFT SPAGHETTI DINNER" in the box was great ! I recall it well from the late 1960's and it was the special tangy dried seasoning envelope that made it taste so unique and delicious ! It was like the Kraft Macaroni & Cheese dinner in a box. The spaghetti was already in there and you had to add oil and your choice of a can of tomato paste or can of tomato sauce to the seasoning, oil, water and mix together to create the sauce. The dried seasoning packet was like SPATINI , the very spicy and tangy blend of seasonings that gave this product a unique flavor. In the end, the sauce was almost homemade and much better than your standard jarred sauce that was bland and boring ! Dougie T. I throw away the pasta in the box, add browned lean ground beef and garlic to the sauce. I think I like it so much because it isn't sweet. Fresh grated Parmesan is better too. So, my grocery store quit carrying it (that's why I came to this site), I googled it and you can buy it on Amazon. Okay, so you have to buy a bunch of it, but it wii probably last forEVER! Brown 1 lb. of ground beef, some garlic, and add the seasoning packet. Stir in two 8oz cans of tomato sauce and 8 oz. of beer or water. Beer makes it better. Then slice up six Spanish olives with pimentos and stir into the sauce. Simmer for 20 min on low. Reminds me of home. Along with the tangy taste, there is a bit of salt in the Kraft recipe that balances out the sweetness of the sauce and tomatoes.

Yes, it is nostalgia to some extent that I crave the flavor. Plus, it isn't available around the Washington, DC area.

I'm also one of those people who love Vernor's Ginger Soda, and I can't abide the taste of the ginger ales available. I discovered that Tone's Spicy Italian seasoning (Sam's Club) approximates the flavor of the seasoning. When I make my everyday bolognese today, I deglaze the skillet with red wine after browning the meat, and use Tone's in the sauce. My boys call it "killer pasta sauce" because it's so full flavored and the spice mix adds that "tang." Unfortunately Sam's is not carrying the spice now, and I'm struggling to duplicate the recipe.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27945607.post-88449165558484502072012-12-08T18:07:46.684-05:002012-12-08T18:07:46.684-05:00It used to be that the directions said to use two ...It used to be that the directions said to use two cans of tomato sauce rather than the tomato paste. I never, ever use tomato paste and water like it says on the boxes now. Like many of the other commenters, I search high and low for the stuff. It's what I grew up eating. This is what spaghetti is supposed to taste like as far as I'm concerned. Of course, I always make it with ground beef as well.
